Inari – center of Sámi culture
Inari village is strongly connected to Sámi culture and life. In Inari there is, among other things, the Sámi Church, the Sámi Museum and Nature Center Siida and the Sámi Cultural Center Sajos, which is the parliament building of Finnish Sámi people as well as a cultural, educational and expertise center.
In Inari is located the Sámi Education Institute Sogsakk, a Finnish state-maintained secondary education institution that has a central role in promoting the Sámi region and culture as well as Arctic expertise.

Inari – or Inari?
A traveler may be confused when talking about Inari. The municipality of Inari is the largest in Finland by area, and Saariselkä is also located in the Inari municipality area. The administrative center of Inari municipality is located in Ivalo.
However, the actual village of Inari is located about 40 kilometers north of Ivalo and Inari village is the center of Sámi culture in Finland.
Although Finland is a bilingual country, here in the northern municipality area three different Sámi languages are officially used alongside Finnish: Northern Sámi, Inari Sámi and Skolt Sámi. Just under a third of the Inari residents (here referring to municipality residents) are Sámi.
